A Moral to Learn

Cutie was a cute girl who lived in Happy ville. She was so talented - knew a lot about arts, music, photograph, cooking, dancing, sports, etc.

She  won many prizes in arts, photograph, cooking and sports, but very less in music and dance.

It was all because of the fear stuck with her.

A new singing competition was around the corner, and Cutie was very eager about that.

She rocked while she sang the song she had chosen to her mom.

Her voice rose where it was supposed to and it smoothened when it was asked to.

She was better than anyone.

She clapped her hands joyfully.

She listened to music while she has free time.

Her mind was so attached to music.

She grabbed her voice and started to sing every time she heard her sister, Beauty play the flute.

Days passed and Cutie continued to rock while she sang.

The day before the competition, Cutie took leave of all her teachers and set her mind only to singing.

She corrected the small mistakes hidden there and it was perfect.

"Nothing else to correct, darling. I'm sure you'll soon 1st Prize! You're voice is better than Sid Shriram! You will impress even Narendra Modhi sir!" Her mother praised her.

That day Cutie was sent to bed by 8 as the competition was 9am tomorrow.

"I'll be a shining star on stage tomorrow!" Said Cutie, as she pulled her blanket towards her.

With this thought, she closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep.

The next day, Cutie was shivering.

"It's a big day today, Cutie. You're gonna brighten up the whole world! I'm sure your voice will make Pakistan our friend by singing so wonderfully." Said Cutie's mom hugging her.

She felt the shivering of Cutie and smiled at her.

"Nothing to worry about, calm down, no need to become tensed. Participation is more important than winning. Your performance must be presentable."

Cutie and mom left for the hall and it seemed as if Cutie's mouth was stapled.

"Why? Left the abode of music? Or is your mouth zipped? Shall I open it?" Asked mom, as she laughed.

But it was more like taunting to Cutie.

They reached the hall.

Cutie clutched her mom's hands.

"Greetings, students. Welcome to the Children's Music contest. I'm so eager to listen to the voices of the beautiful children. We will go by alphabetical order. If the child is with same name and initial, we will choose." Said one of the judges.

At once, Cutie started to shiver badly as she heard the word "Alphabetical".

"Here's the order - Ava, Balu, Cutie, Jim, Kate, Nilly, Sofia and Yaya." Said a judge, looking into a rather rotten paper.

Cutie was third! She didn't think this was the right time to sing.

Minutes later, after hearing pleasant songs, Cutie's name seemed to ring Cutie's ears.

She could hardly think of singing.

She walked to the stage, which was wide with huge, Red curtains hanging and a big sign, which said CHILDREN'S MUSIC CONTEST.

Cutie cleared her throat and started to sing:

Music, music,

So nice to-

Uh, so nice to-

So nice to listen to it!

Dance, dance, dance!

To the beat-t-t

To the bea-

To the beat,

It's our life treat,

A Mus-tastic treat,

A Mus-tastic treat!

Dance, dance, t-

"Come on Cutie! You can do it!" Said one of the judges clapping to the beat.

To the beat!

Tap your feet!

Everyone, clap your hands,

I'm welcoming you to the musical land!

The last lines were amazing.

But no reaction from the judges.

They did the same for everyone.

Cutie's mom gave no reaction, except for a lame smile.

Cutie felt that what she did was not enough and vowed that she'll build up confidence the next time.

After an hour, the competition ended with an amazing song sung by all 5 judges.

After a week, the results were announced.

Cutie refused to look in but was surprised to see....

That she was selected for the finals!

And on the finals....

She won first prize!

And what do we learn?

I'd like to know from you! Please enter your answer in the comments....

Bye!

Long Lost Sleep

After a long, exhausting day, the only thing all of us look forward to is SLEEP. So, as soon as you finish off the last crumbs on your dinner plate, you fling yourself onto your bed, rest yourself in a comfortable position, get your pillow nice and fluffed up, and throw the blankets on yourself. But then... You just realised that you still have your big, wobbly earrings on. So you throw back the blankets and remove your earrings and leave them in their box. And then you're back in your bed, and just as your eyelids are about to close... You realise that you haven't brushed your teeth. So, yet again, your throw back the blankets and get off the bed, letting the annoying, creaky sound fill your head. And then you throw open the door to your bathroom, get your brush ready and squeeze toothpaste onto it, but... The tube seemed to have a hole on the back, which you sadly hadn't noticed. And you get toothpaste all over your hands. Fuming, you wash your hands and get things done...

So Close, Yet So Far

What you knew you had right beside you What you never knew might leave you What you had neglected for days What you wished was still there, within your gaze. That miniscule amount of hope  That you feel lingering close by You could open out your arms, embrace it, But suddenly it's high in the sky. Once within your grasp, But now away from you, Don't waste a moment on a wee gasp, Time won't stop, and the moving hope too. Each moment is to be caught, Each memory to be cherished, Hold them carefully in your arms, Before they shall vanish. The consistent inkling when you feel, Something close, yet so far, Is only because you know yourself, That it is within your grasp, but not within your confidence. If you're positive enough that you can hold it, The 'it' that is mysterious and something only you know, You can hold the precious 'it', Clutch it tight, don't let it go. You must be close to the end of the day, With its cliffs and slopes and Rocky slides,...

Stars

Shining in the vast night sky, I see them from afar. Dominated by the brighter moon, There glimmer the stars. Mostly hidden by the cruel shadows, Or by the thick, misty clouds. But they do not give up, they still glimmer on, They make their voice be heard loud. Even though they're hardly seen, Even though they're hardly thought of, They know that someday they will be, Thought of, honoured and loved. So take an inspiration from stars, Show your true essence, Continue to shimmer, ignore the darkness, Because one day it'll fear your presence.
