The Sun and The Moon

The sun hid behind the rounded tops

Of the green hills that stretch across

The land.

Its vibrant rays peeked through the cracks

Between the consistent hills

And the rays painted the sky.

The sun dipped low and disappeared

Carrying away its coloured rays

Along with it.

The moon bobbed up

Slowly and attained its greatest height

And illuminated the night sky.

And it shone its heart out

Quietly expressing gratitude to the more

Vibrant sun.

The sun is not one who would pilfer

All splendour to itself,

But the sun is one who shares.

The sun shines upon the moon

And its rays the moon would reflect

Casting the stars into the shadows.

The moon, oh does it wish

To once meet the sun to thank it

In person.

And oh, did the moon wonder

If the sun realised just how much

The moon appreciated the sun's munificence.

The next day, as the sun replaced the moon,

The moon took longer to set back down

And took the moment -

To stay with the sun

For a few brief hours

Hoping the sun knew what the moon implied.

The moon may never know

Never know if the sun understood

And thus, after lingering behind

It disappeared back to where it is

When we don't see it.

Nonetheless,

Whether or not the sun knows that

The moon is indebted to it,

The moon continued to feel grateful

Grateful to the sun

Quietly

Carrying the feeling

In its heart.

  1. Oh my God Shriyan! What a fabulous imagination !! You have beautifully portrayed that meeting of sun and moon in the horizon , and moon lingering around to thank the sun! What a unique way to describe that lovely hour of the morning! The chirping of the birds and the clicking of the cicadas also join the moon in welcoming the sun , making it the most beautiful hour of the day! You have given an unparalleled example of gratitude.

  4. Gratitude says it all whether understood by the recipient or not , Gratitude pays when you show it and that is why the Moon is great in its own way, for every creation of HIS is unique and beautiful. Loved your choice of words and the array of thoughts.

Behind The Mask

Behind the clouds  Is the hidden sky, so far, Behind the plasters, A nasty scar, Behind the curtains,  Are bright windows  But behind a mask - It is not for show. Not until you tumble into the trap,  Stay trapped there, in disguised gloom  Without realising it - And then go deeper and deeper  To discover what really looms. Then realisation strikes - How they behaved, how they feigned The hidden meaning behind every wave  You've found it. And the rage, You try to stifle it with much courage, But instead, burn down the page, And whoops - that leads you to your cage. But in the end, the mask is gone - To reveal an atrocity, so from it begone Don't explain, on its own will it dawn - Upon others, just the way it did on you - Ignore their every scorn. Just wait for their mask to be openly torn.

So Close, Yet So Far

What you knew you had right beside you What you never knew might leave you What you had neglected for days What you wished was still there, within your gaze. That miniscule amount of hope  That you feel lingering close by You could open out your arms, embrace it, But suddenly it's high in the sky. Once within your grasp, But now away from you, Don't waste a moment on a wee gasp, Time won't stop, and the moving hope too. Each moment is to be caught, Each memory to be cherished, Hold them carefully in your arms, Before they shall vanish. The consistent inkling when you feel, Something close, yet so far, Is only because you know yourself, That it is within your grasp, but not within your confidence. If you're positive enough that you can hold it, The 'it' that is mysterious and something only you know, You can hold the precious 'it', Clutch it tight, don't let it go. You must be close to the end of the day, With its cliffs and slopes and Rocky slides,...

Eclipsed

Moon:  I shine every night  Though, once a month, I take a break  But I'm seen regularly,  And it's not a big deal.  Few stop by  To marvel at me.  But what about the others -  Can they even see? And tonight is the night  A shadow shall be cast upon me  I hope no one notices -  My brief moments without glory.  Oh, but who am I kidding?  Of course, when I'm humiliated  In the vast night sky  Just me, and an eery shadow upon me  That  That is when the humans  Choose to gaze at me.  And then, to say I am weak And I'm always overruled by  The sun, and shadows, and clouds?  That is not fair.  But the truth that the moon does not know  Is that our little downfalls  Are what define us.  They're the little things that make us  Better - Perfection isn't a thing; but realism is.  Someone who is perfect cannot be likeable - But someone with flaws has more pe...
