Stuck To Me - Forever

A delicious apple lay before me
And as my eyes shone, my hands picked it up
With greed
My mouth took a bite, triggering a rush of
Taste
And the wonderful apple I devoured with haste.
As I washed it down with thirst quenching water,
I felt something hugging the back of my inner tooth,
It seemed to tighten its grasp as time fell slacker,
And I fumbled all along to get it out soon.
My tongue turned in all ways
As it tried to push the irritant out
But at the end, my tongue turned in for the day
As I bit it hard - releasing a raspy shout.
I used my blunt fingers
Nail-free, to pluck it out,
But it became weaker
As I dug my tooth more - no luck, a pout.
I rummaged my house for one - just one toothpick,
Or any sharp object that won't mind
Going in and out of my mouth to fetch the bit out quick
But only that object I couldn't find.
I stood in front of the mirror,
Looking again and again
At that stuck apple crumb that seemed to have gotten
Bigger
I kept fiddling with it, with my fingers, with my tongue
With my other neighbouring teeth,
No luck, I gave up and termed it
A cause far-flung.
I spent the rest of the day, lying hopelessly in my bed
Sick of the irritant stuck inside my mouth
And once, after a long time, my fiddling prevailed -
My sore tongue helped me get that piece out.
And the free bit, I tried to swallow -
In the process, allowing it to get stuck
To another tooth fellow.

  1. Most of us have this experience. As usual you have narrated so interestingly even the irritating struck piece of apple and I enjoyed reading it with a smile.super Shriyandhaa

Behind The Mask

Behind the clouds  Is the hidden sky, so far, Behind the plasters, A nasty scar, Behind the curtains,  Are bright windows  But behind a mask - It is not for show. Not until you tumble into the trap,  Stay trapped there, in disguised gloom  Without realising it - And then go deeper and deeper  To discover what really looms. Then realisation strikes - How they behaved, how they feigned The hidden meaning behind every wave  You've found it. And the rage, You try to stifle it with much courage, But instead, burn down the page, And whoops - that leads you to your cage. But in the end, the mask is gone - To reveal an atrocity, so from it begone Don't explain, on its own will it dawn - Upon others, just the way it did on you - Ignore their every scorn. Just wait for their mask to be openly torn.

So Close, Yet So Far

What you knew you had right beside you What you never knew might leave you What you had neglected for days What you wished was still there, within your gaze. That miniscule amount of hope  That you feel lingering close by You could open out your arms, embrace it, But suddenly it's high in the sky. Once within your grasp, But now away from you, Don't waste a moment on a wee gasp, Time won't stop, and the moving hope too. Each moment is to be caught, Each memory to be cherished, Hold them carefully in your arms, Before they shall vanish. The consistent inkling when you feel, Something close, yet so far, Is only because you know yourself, That it is within your grasp, but not within your confidence. If you're positive enough that you can hold it, The 'it' that is mysterious and something only you know, You can hold the precious 'it', Clutch it tight, don't let it go. You must be close to the end of the day, With its cliffs and slopes and Rocky slides,...

Stars

Shining in the vast night sky, I see them from afar. Dominated by the brighter moon, There glimmer the stars. Mostly hidden by the cruel shadows, Or by the thick, misty clouds. But they do not give up, they still glimmer on, They make their voice be heard loud. Even though they're hardly seen, Even though they're hardly thought of, They know that someday they will be, Thought of, honoured and loved. So take an inspiration from stars, Show your true essence, Continue to shimmer, ignore the darkness, Because one day it'll fear your presence.
