Long Lost Sleep

After a long, exhausting day, the only thing all of us look forward to is SLEEP. So, as soon as you finish off the last crumbs on your dinner plate, you fling yourself onto your bed, rest yourself in a comfortable position, get your pillow nice and fluffed up, and throw the blankets on yourself. But then...

You just realised that you still have your big, wobbly earrings on. So you throw back the blankets and remove your earrings and leave them in their box. And then you're back in your bed, and just as your eyelids are about to close...

You realise that you haven't brushed your teeth. So, yet again, your throw back the blankets and get off the bed, letting the annoying, creaky sound fill your head. And then you throw open the door to your bathroom, get your brush ready and squeeze toothpaste onto it, but...

The tube seemed to have a hole on the back, which you sadly hadn't noticed. And you get toothpaste all over your hands. Fuming, you wash your hands and get things done. And again, you're back in your bed, tucked comfortably back into the blankets. And exactly when your eyelids close and your brain is about to drift off to sleep...

You realise that you're still in your extra frilly, sweaty and super long gown. After releasing an incredibly exasperated sigh, you throw back the blanket, get off bed and head to the closet to get changed. Soon enough, you're back in the bed, with the blankets back on, and half-asleep already, when...

You hear your phone chime. And your eyes snap back open, when you just realised you haven't logged into Duolingo yet. And then, you throw back the blankets aggressively, positively annoyed by the fact that something's always keeping you from falling asleep. After a boring French lesson, you tuck yourself back in bed. But you're unable to find sleep...

You get yourself a glass of water. Then go back to bed. Still unable to sleep, you try adjusting your position.

Still no sleep.

You get more water.

Still no sleep.

You listen to soothing, calming bedtime music.

Still no sleep.

Finally, you get fed up and just lie in your bed, idle, sleepless, with a scowl placed on your face. And like, 5 minutes later, you hear your alarm blaring, striving to wake you up.

And just then, you realised, that you had finally slept, for not 5 minutes, but 10 hours. But when you hop out of bed, you realised...

Your earrings were still on.

Your extra frilly, sweaty and super long gown was still on you.

Your phone constantly chiming, with Duolingo sending you messages that you forgot to do your lesson and lost your streak.

The glass of water was not on your bedside table.

And all those stuff which had stopped you from sleeping, well, they were all part of a dream.

  12. Oh my God!! I started to feel sorry every time you mentioned one or the other unfinished work just as sleep started setting in !!! However , that’s very true and I relate to it completely! But do think about the beauty of human brain - whenever there is some important yet unfinished task at hand, no matter how close you are to sleeping , or even if you’ve drifted off to sleep, brain sends out that alarm sooner or later and makes you wake up with a jerk !!!
Beautiful write up , kannama!!! Thoroughly loved reading it !!

So Close, Yet So Far

What you knew you had right beside you What you never knew might leave you What you had neglected for days What you wished was still there, within your gaze. That miniscule amount of hope  That you feel lingering close by You could open out your arms, embrace it, But suddenly it's high in the sky. Once within your grasp, But now away from you, Don't waste a moment on a wee gasp, Time won't stop, and the moving hope too. Each moment is to be caught, Each memory to be cherished, Hold them carefully in your arms, Before they shall vanish. The consistent inkling when you feel, Something close, yet so far, Is only because you know yourself, That it is within your grasp, but not within your confidence. If you're positive enough that you can hold it, The 'it' that is mysterious and something only you know, You can hold the precious 'it', Clutch it tight, don't let it go. You must be close to the end of the day, With its cliffs and slopes and Rocky slides,...

Stars

Shining in the vast night sky, I see them from afar. Dominated by the brighter moon, There glimmer the stars. Mostly hidden by the cruel shadows, Or by the thick, misty clouds. But they do not give up, they still glimmer on, They make their voice be heard loud. Even though they're hardly seen, Even though they're hardly thought of, They know that someday they will be, Thought of, honoured and loved. So take an inspiration from stars, Show your true essence, Continue to shimmer, ignore the darkness, Because one day it'll fear your presence.
