Coco-money

Once there was a rich merchant called Coco. He was a terrible miser. He traded valuable rocks, stones, crystals and related items.

Once, he was invited to his friend's birthday. The cook had prepared Coconut Barfi for his birthday. "Mmm..... What a delicious sweet! What is it made of? What is the main ingredient?" Coco asked. "Sir, the main ingredient is coconut." Said Coco's friend.

Coco then took leave of his friend and went to a nearby shop to buy Coconuts. "How much for 1 coconut?" He asked. "Only 5 rupees sir." The shopkeeper replied. Coco thought, and said, "Can you give it for a lower price?" He asked. "If you want it for a lower price, go to the shop in the forest. He sells it only for 2 rupees." The shopkeeper replied.

Coco rushed into the forest and found a small shop open with a sign: COCONUTS FOR SALE. He then was scared by a man who popped out of the stall. "1 coconut please," Coco said. "That would be 2 rupees." The old shopkeeper said. "Can you give it for 1 rupee?" Coco asked. "If you want it for 1 rupee, take a right, a left, straight, 2 rights and your destination is on the left. It's just 5 kilometres away.

Coco left with no reply. But his legs started to pain. He was there after an hour. But then, his miserly mind started thinking and he asked the shopkeeper, "Tell me a place where they sell coconuts for free." The shopkeeper laughed. "Only an idiot would sell coconuts for free. But there is a place with delicious coconuts!" He said. "Tell me, quickly." Coco said.

"Go to the beach. There are many coconut trees there. It's just 130 kilometres away." Coco delightedly ran away, but soon, he had no more energy to walk. So he had to pay 10,000 to ride a horse to the beach. When he reached, he happily climbed a fine coconut tree, but then, after picking coconuts, he noticed that he wouldn't be able to climb down. So he had to give 1200 to borrow a ladder.

But then, the ladder fell to the ground. And he had to give 6000 to get a boost from a young man. But then they both fell, and Coco had to pay 1 lakh to treat himself. And he had to pay extra 1 lakh to treat the young man. "I wasted too much money because of my misery," he thought. "I should've bought the same 5 rupee coconut from the coconut store!"

  1. Super Shriyandhaa. Very good story teaching moral. A great lesson to be learnt. Penny wise pound foolish - there goes the proverb. Your story of a miser's misery for his attitude is highly commendable. Please keep on writing like this. Good.

Long Lost Sleep

After a long, exhausting day, the only thing all of us look forward to is SLEEP. So, as soon as you finish off the last crumbs on your dinner plate, you fling yourself onto your bed, rest yourself in a comfortable position, get your pillow nice and fluffed up, and throw the blankets on yourself. But then... You just realised that you still have your big, wobbly earrings on. So you throw back the blankets and remove your earrings and leave them in their box. And then you're back in your bed, and just as your eyelids are about to close... You realise that you haven't brushed your teeth. So, yet again, your throw back the blankets and get off the bed, letting the annoying, creaky sound fill your head. And then you throw open the door to your bathroom, get your brush ready and squeeze toothpaste onto it, but... The tube seemed to have a hole on the back, which you sadly hadn't noticed. And you get toothpaste all over your hands. Fuming, you wash your hands and get things done...

So Close, Yet So Far

What you knew you had right beside you What you never knew might leave you What you had neglected for days What you wished was still there, within your gaze. That miniscule amount of hope  That you feel lingering close by You could open out your arms, embrace it, But suddenly it's high in the sky. Once within your grasp, But now away from you, Don't waste a moment on a wee gasp, Time won't stop, and the moving hope too. Each moment is to be caught, Each memory to be cherished, Hold them carefully in your arms, Before they shall vanish. The consistent inkling when you feel, Something close, yet so far, Is only because you know yourself, That it is within your grasp, but not within your confidence. If you're positive enough that you can hold it, The 'it' that is mysterious and something only you know, You can hold the precious 'it', Clutch it tight, don't let it go. You must be close to the end of the day, With its cliffs and slopes and Rocky slides,...

Stars

Shining in the vast night sky, I see them from afar. Dominated by the brighter moon, There glimmer the stars. Mostly hidden by the cruel shadows, Or by the thick, misty clouds. But they do not give up, they still glimmer on, They make their voice be heard loud. Even though they're hardly seen, Even though they're hardly thought of, They know that someday they will be, Thought of, honoured and loved. So take an inspiration from stars, Show your true essence, Continue to shimmer, ignore the darkness, Because one day it'll fear your presence.
