The Story of Dhruva - Bhagavatam

Here is a story that all of us might know...
Svayambu Manu was the son of Bramha and a part of Hari. He had two sons, Uttanapada and Priyavarta. When Uttanapada grew up, he had two queens. One was named Suruchi, and the other, Sunithi. Suruchi had a son called Uttama and Sunithi had a son called Dhruva. As the king likes Suruchi more, he often takes Uttama on his lap.

One day, Dhruva ran to the king and sat on his lap. Immediately, Suruchi pushed him off. "You have no rights to sit on the king's lap! If you want to, you better pray to god." Said Suruchi angrily. Dhruva went crying to his mother. "She's right dear. The king likes her more and that is why Uttama is allowed to sit on his lap. Maybe you should go to the forest and meditate." Said Sunithi. So, Dhruva set off for the forest. The king was worried about Dhruva. On the way, Dhruva met Naaradha. Naaradha asked, "Dear Dhruva, where are you going?" Dhruva replied, "I am going to meditate." Naaradha said, "Oh! The forest is a dangerous place and it is not safe for kids like you. You better go back." Dhruva said, "No, I want blessings from God." Naaradha smiled and said, "I was just testing you. Say the word, Om namo bhagavate vasudevaya." Dhruva agreed and did as Naaradha said. He meditated for six months. The seventh month, god appeared before Dhruva! Dhruva was so happy that he cried for joy! He fell on god's feet and sang songs on god. Lord Vishnu touched Dhruva's head with his divine conch and said, "Dear Dhruva, you have did such a meditation and have met me today. You will become a great king and will rule for many years. At the end of your life, you'll go to your own star, your own house, the Dhruva taara." Lord then disappeared. Dhruva was so happy and went back home. After many years, Dhruva became a great king like lord Vishnu said. He ruled for many years and, at the end of his life, he went to his star, the Dhruva taara. He lived happily, and peacefully there.

So Close, Yet So Far

What you knew you had right beside you What you never knew might leave you What you had neglected for days What you wished was still there, within your gaze. That miniscule amount of hope  That you feel lingering close by You could open out your arms, embrace it, But suddenly it's high in the sky. Once within your grasp, But now away from you, Don't waste a moment on a wee gasp, Time won't stop, and the moving hope too. Each moment is to be caught, Each memory to be cherished, Hold them carefully in your arms, Before they shall vanish. The consistent inkling when you feel, Something close, yet so far, Is only because you know yourself, That it is within your grasp, but not within your confidence. If you're positive enough that you can hold it, The 'it' that is mysterious and something only you know, You can hold the precious 'it', Clutch it tight, don't let it go. You must be close to the end of the day, With its cliffs and slopes and Rocky slides,...

Stars

Shining in the vast night sky, I see them from afar. Dominated by the brighter moon, There glimmer the stars. Mostly hidden by the cruel shadows, Or by the thick, misty clouds. But they do not give up, they still glimmer on, They make their voice be heard loud. Even though they're hardly seen, Even though they're hardly thought of, They know that someday they will be, Thought of, honoured and loved. So take an inspiration from stars, Show your true essence, Continue to shimmer, ignore the darkness, Because one day it'll fear your presence.

Behind The Mask

Behind the clouds  Is the hidden sky, so far, Behind the plasters, A nasty scar, Behind the curtains,  Are bright windows  But behind a mask - It is not for show. Not until you tumble into the trap,  Stay trapped there, in disguised gloom  Without realising it - And then go deeper and deeper  To discover what really looms. Then realisation strikes - How they behaved, how they feigned The hidden meaning behind every wave  You've found it. And the rage, You try to stifle it with much courage, But instead, burn down the page, And whoops - that leads you to your cage. But in the end, the mask is gone - To reveal an atrocity, so from it begone Don't explain, on its own will it dawn - Upon others, just the way it did on you - Ignore their every scorn. Just wait for their mask to be openly torn.
