Happy 4th Birthday, Shriyandhaa's Space!

4 years ago, on the 23rd of August, my mom looked at my notebook of small poems and typed out a few letters on the keyboard and hit the publish button.

And just like that, Shriyandhaa's Space started existing. And ever since, I've been filling it with amusing poems, stories, write-ups and other chatter.

And I've progressed from 4-lined gibberish to 2 paragraphed rhymes to decent poems to whatever I write now. And I'm happy about it.

I'm also glad that for 4 years the same people have been constantly encouraging me and motivating me and stopping me from giving up. I might be thinking right now that I've come a long way, but this is only the start. There's still a long journey ahead. And there always will be, as long as there's more to discover and learn.

Four years ago today,

Four hundred posts this day,

Two times four is this month,

Innumerable musings yet to play.

A small collection in a small book,

A big blog on the big Internet,

An infinite joy in this world,

There are thousands more to write about yet.

From gibberish to lines,

From the ground to the sky,

From nature and colours

To emotions and others,

This might be a short way,

But to celebrate the small things,

This is the day.

For these four years, I've enjoyed my time,

By filling it in with poems and fun,

Let's aim for infinite years to stay,

And wish Shriyandhaa's Space Happy Birthday!!!

  2. Happy 4th Blog-versary to you my chellam!! This blog indeed speaks volumes about your beautiful growth as a writer , poetess, story-teller!! I am never ceased to be amazed at the intricacies of your posts - they’re full of perspective and it’s very hard to believe that they’ve been conceived in the mind of a small little 11 year old as yourself! I am very sure that this is just a start and I really wish to see you emerge as a proclaimed author some day! Your Amma Appa, Paatis and Thathas are your biggest cheerleaders and their encouragement and blessings will ensure that this blog space celebrates its silver, golden, platinum anniversary, kanna!!

Long Lost Sleep

After a long, exhausting day, the only thing all of us look forward to is SLEEP. So, as soon as you finish off the last crumbs on your dinner plate, you fling yourself onto your bed, rest yourself in a comfortable position, get your pillow nice and fluffed up, and throw the blankets on yourself. But then... You just realised that you still have your big, wobbly earrings on. So you throw back the blankets and remove your earrings and leave them in their box. And then you're back in your bed, and just as your eyelids are about to close... You realise that you haven't brushed your teeth. So, yet again, your throw back the blankets and get off the bed, letting the annoying, creaky sound fill your head. And then you throw open the door to your bathroom, get your brush ready and squeeze toothpaste onto it, but... The tube seemed to have a hole on the back, which you sadly hadn't noticed. And you get toothpaste all over your hands. Fuming, you wash your hands and get things done...

So Close, Yet So Far

What you knew you had right beside you What you never knew might leave you What you had neglected for days What you wished was still there, within your gaze. That miniscule amount of hope  That you feel lingering close by You could open out your arms, embrace it, But suddenly it's high in the sky. Once within your grasp, But now away from you, Don't waste a moment on a wee gasp, Time won't stop, and the moving hope too. Each moment is to be caught, Each memory to be cherished, Hold them carefully in your arms, Before they shall vanish. The consistent inkling when you feel, Something close, yet so far, Is only because you know yourself, That it is within your grasp, but not within your confidence. If you're positive enough that you can hold it, The 'it' that is mysterious and something only you know, You can hold the precious 'it', Clutch it tight, don't let it go. You must be close to the end of the day, With its cliffs and slopes and Rocky slides,...

Stars

Shining in the vast night sky, I see them from afar. Dominated by the brighter moon, There glimmer the stars. Mostly hidden by the cruel shadows, Or by the thick, misty clouds. But they do not give up, they still glimmer on, They make their voice be heard loud. Even though they're hardly seen, Even though they're hardly thought of, They know that someday they will be, Thought of, honoured and loved. So take an inspiration from stars, Show your true essence, Continue to shimmer, ignore the darkness, Because one day it'll fear your presence.
