My Mother

When I'm sad,
When I'm mad,
I have my mom
To calm me down,
One hug from her
And then I'll pur
My thanks to her
Then settle in a land of fur.

When she hugs me,
I'm light-hearted,
When she hugs me
My anger is thwarted,
I love her so
And she loves me back,
No matter what,
She'll always have my back.
And I mean that literally,
Because she's quite cuddly,
When I'm sad or angry
I'm in for huggies!

She cooks spectacular food,
Has a soft temper,
She only does good
And I love her!
She's the best mom that
One could ask for,
Each time and the next,
Her love for me is ALWAYS more.

  1. Shriyannnnn thangammmm!!! Such a beautiful poem!!!! You have described your Amma perfectly - each word is so true! You both are blessed to have each other in your lives !! You know , I read somewhere that the best way to reciprocate all the love that your mother showers on you , is to be born as her mom in the next janma! Intriguing, no?
I wish and pray to the Almighty that this mom-daughter duo is never bereft of smiles, happiness and abundance ! As usual , your penmanship is beyond your age kanna kutty!!
    Loads of love,
    Aunty

So Close, Yet So Far

What you knew you had right beside you What you never knew might leave you What you had neglected for days What you wished was still there, within your gaze. That miniscule amount of hope  That you feel lingering close by You could open out your arms, embrace it, But suddenly it's high in the sky. Once within your grasp, But now away from you, Don't waste a moment on a wee gasp, Time won't stop, and the moving hope too. Each moment is to be caught, Each memory to be cherished, Hold them carefully in your arms, Before they shall vanish. The consistent inkling when you feel, Something close, yet so far, Is only because you know yourself, That it is within your grasp, but not within your confidence. If you're positive enough that you can hold it, The 'it' that is mysterious and something only you know, You can hold the precious 'it', Clutch it tight, don't let it go. You must be close to the end of the day, With its cliffs and slopes and Rocky slides,...

Behind The Mask

Behind the clouds  Is the hidden sky, so far, Behind the plasters, A nasty scar, Behind the curtains,  Are bright windows  But behind a mask - It is not for show. Not until you tumble into the trap,  Stay trapped there, in disguised gloom  Without realising it - And then go deeper and deeper  To discover what really looms. Then realisation strikes - How they behaved, how they feigned The hidden meaning behind every wave  You've found it. And the rage, You try to stifle it with much courage, But instead, burn down the page, And whoops - that leads you to your cage. But in the end, the mask is gone - To reveal an atrocity, so from it begone Don't explain, on its own will it dawn - Upon others, just the way it did on you - Ignore their every scorn. Just wait for their mask to be openly torn.

Stars

Shining in the vast night sky, I see them from afar. Dominated by the brighter moon, There glimmer the stars. Mostly hidden by the cruel shadows, Or by the thick, misty clouds. But they do not give up, they still glimmer on, They make their voice be heard loud. Even though they're hardly seen, Even though they're hardly thought of, They know that someday they will be, Thought of, honoured and loved. So take an inspiration from stars, Show your true essence, Continue to shimmer, ignore the darkness, Because one day it'll fear your presence.
